Graduate/Credential (200-Level) Credit

For a 30-unit master’s degree at San José State University, you may not apply more than six units of Open University credit or credits transferred from another university – in any approved combination.

All students taking 200-level courses must obtain the signature of the Associate Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research before submitting their registration forms to the Student Services Center.

Students who have been denied admission to or who have been disqualified in a regular semester cannot enroll in 200-level graduate courses through Open University.

Students must have a bachelor’s degree before enrolling in 200-level graduate courses through Open University.

Please note that the College of Business does not allow graduate (200-level) course enrollments through Open University.

Engineering students must have both the instructor’s signature and the department chair’s signature to enroll in a 200-level graduate course and before getting approval from the Associate Dean in Graduate Studies.

Students cannot enroll in special studies or special project courses through Open University (i.e. 298 and 299 courses).
